Welcome to Wee Daycare Plus Junior Kindergarten!
Wee Daycare Plus provides a safe and stimulating environment for your child to Learn, Play and Grow. We are an inclusive centre for children 12 months to 2.5 years (Infant Toddler Program), and 2.5 years to 5 years old (Daycare Plus Program/Kindergarten readiness).
We are located in the heart of Ladner. Easy access to Highway 17 and Arthur Drive. We have a fenced in front yard space, a soccer field, and a large private courtyard full of child-friendly play structures.
The staff at Wee Daycare are dedicated Early Childhood Educators, Infant Toddler and ECE Assistants who have a passion for providing quality childcare. We view ourselves as learners and continue to gain understanding and knowledge through continuing professional development.
The Director of Wee Daycare originally developed over 12 years, a successful Preschool Program in Tsawwassen and taught Child Growth and Development (an ECE course) for a college in Vancouver. With this knowledge, she has been able to develop a Daycare Plus Junior Kindergarten Program. Our centre incorporates a full kindergarten readiness program, many extracurricular activities, and a warm nurturing environment where each individual child’s needs are met.
Early Childhood Development is a priority for us. The first five years of a child’s life are the most critical for healthy, mental, physical and social development. Junior Kindergarten/Kindergarten builds on these principles through a distinct play-based curriculum designed to foster a sense of identity, conversation and communication, collaboration and teamwork, problem-solving and decision making, creativity and innovation, and the basics of reading, writing, and mathematics. Children are in a group with their peers and learn, through playing, how to make friends, express themselves, explore, and connect their experiences in an environment focused on stimulating curiosity and helping them develop skills, interests and healthy behaviours.
Wee Daycare offers a developmentally appropriate early childhood education program that meets the needs of the “whole child” and encourages the power of play. Play is the primary occupation of a child. The curriculum respects both the age and the individual needs of each child. We provide a safe, healthy learning environment that will advance your child’s physical and intellectual competence, communication and creativity. Social and emotional development is encouraged to nurture self-esteem, social responsibility and pro-social skills.
What is developmentally appropriate practice? Developmentally appropriate practice means that preschool activities and the program takes into account what each child is ready for. Children ages 2-5 should be offered a wide variety of hands-on opportunities to explore the world around them. Daily routines at Wee Daycare motivates children to engage in many active learning experiences. These experiences enhance children’s development in cognitive growth, fine and gross motor skills, social competencies, language and literacy skills, creative expression and sensory integration. The physical environment at Wee Daycare is well organized and safe. The learning environment is designed to offer larger and smaller spaces for learning. Gross motor movement is encouraged through a variety of indoor and outdoor play equipment. Daily small and large group times are implemented which includes – calendar, weather, discussion, exercise, rhymes, music, dance, exploration, sign language, sports and much more.
Daily table time activities encourage learning and problem solving, as well as logical thinking skills such as classifying objects, comparing/measuring, arranging objects in a series, pattern recognition, awareness of time concepts and sequence, awareness of position in space, one-to-one correspondence, and using numbers and counting. Opportunities are given to encourage representational and symbolic thought either through creative expressive activities such as art activities and projects and also through unstructured opportunities for dramatic play.
Language activities encourage oral self-expression, answering and asking questions, following oral directions and conversations. Reading and writing skills are also included, such as listening to stories and participating in story-time discussions, understanding of print concepts, beginning knowledge of the alphabet, phonics concepts, the use of emerging reading skills to make meaning from print, and writing letters and words. Activities are provided in a fun and creative manner in both large and small group settings.
Teacher-child interactions communicate acceptance, respect, and trust with each child as we;; as respect for basic group expectations. Positive guidance strategies are utilized to encourage respect, care and social responsibility for one another. We stress the importance of positive interactions and the appreciation of one another.
